What is ETL?

ETL stands for Extract Transform and Load. It is a type of software that is used for moving data from one source to another. ETL software is often use as part of a larger suite of Business Intelligence software tools. There are many different types of ETL tools so it is important to understand what tool is used in building your data warehouse. An ETL developer can also be referred to as a ETL engineer, a data modeler, or a data warehouse architect. Once an ETL tool delivers data to a data warehouse, the data warehouse can be used by Report writers and Report Analysts to build end user reports, dashboards, etc. Business decision makers will use those reports to make intelligent business decisions.
